For Psychological Emergencies:
During Regular Business Hours (8:30am – 4:30pm):
Call CAPS at 732-932-7884 and ask for the On-Call counselor. We are equipped to handle crisis situations on short notice. The receptionist will link callers to the on-call counselor who will assess the situation and provide specific direction about what to do. Be sure to indicate to the receptionist that you think it is an urgent situation and briefly describe what is going on, so you will get the fastest possible attention.
After 4:30pm and on Weekends:
Call the 24-hour emergency hotline at 732-235-5700 which is professionally staffed by the local community mental health center. (NOTE: This is primarily for people in the New Brunswick/ Piscataway/Middlesex County area. If you are from another area, please call the local hospital emergency room, or look in the "Emergency numbers" section at the front of your telephone directory for a local service.)
